AWARD INFORMATION
The Applegate-Jackson-Parks Future Teacher Scholarship recognizes three educators who worked in Michigan's public schools but were let go because they wouldn't pay union dues. Each year, a $1,000 prize is given to the education student who most embodies Carol Applegate, Kay Jackson, and Dr. Anne Parks' commitment to high ethical standards. Only graduate or undergraduate students who are majoring in education at American institutes of higher learning may apply. The National Right to Work Committee, the National Institute for Labor Relations Research, and members of the Selection Review Committee, as well as their spouses and children, are all ineligible. Academic prowess and a clear interest in the activities of the Institute are taken into consideration when awarding the scholarship. Additionally, candidates must show potential for successfully completing the educational requirements of a Department of Education program at a college or university and for successfully applying for a teaching license, as well as provide a transcript of grades. Write a unique essay of about 500 words that demonstrates your comprehension of the ideas of voluntary unionism and the issues with coercive unionism in respect to education. The three components of an application are as follows: a finished official application; a copy of the most recent grade transcript; A 500-word typewritten essay exhibiting a demonstrated interest in and understanding of the Right to Work principle as it relates to educators. We would prefer that you apply online. Regardless of the method you choose to use to send your application, it is your obligation to make sure we got it in its entirety.
